Drafttek Live Positional Rankings

The Center is the innermost lineman on the Offensive Line. His responsibilities are:

1) Snap the ball to the Quarterback
2) Make the first line call based on his view of defensive positioning
3) Run and Pass Blocking after the snap

One Center may be preferred over another based upon several factors:

A. Prevailing offensive philosophy. A zone blocking scheme would favor speed and agility over size.
B. Opponents: if a team's opponents play a majority of 3-4 defense, a center must be able to engage the Nose Tackle.
