OFFENSIVE TACKLE
(LEFT)

The Tackles are the offensive linemen at the end of the line, on either side (right or left). Their responsibilities include:

1) Engage the Defensive Ends in straight-ahead run and pass blocking, sometimes passing off 3-4 Defensive Ends to the Guard in order to block the Outside Linebacker
2) Perform other blocking techniques, such as pulling for sweeps, cross-blocking, trapping, double-teaming, etc.

Drafttek designates Right Offensive Tackles (ROT) from Left Offensive Tackles (LOT) based upon the following factors:

A. Run blocking ability: Normally, Offensive Tackles are taller than Guards; as a result, the ability to maintain leverage (lower center of gravity) in the power running game would be of importance to a Right Tackle.
B. Pass blocking ability: Normally, a team's best pass rusher plays on the right side of the defense; therefore, the Left Tackle must be a combination of power and agility and possess the footwork to block speed rushers.
