Running Backs line up in the backfield, either behind the Fullback in the "I" formation, alongside another Back in the "T" formation, or next to the Quarterback in the shotgun or spread formation. This position has the following responsibilities:
1) Carry the ball/or block on running plays 2) Carry out running fakes; block or serve as an outlet receiver on pass plays Drafttek designates prospects for this position as either RBF (Feature RB) or RBC (Change of Pace RB). The differences are as follows: A. A "Feature" RB (RBF) is normally an every down type player that is powerfully built for all types of running plays - power plays up the middle, off-tackle slants, and end sweeps. The RBF can effectively handle all blocking assignments and is an adequate receiver out of the backfield B. Change of Pace RB's (RBC) are normally smaller players that exhibit speed and quickness in abundance. They run more "quick-hitting" plays - sweeps and screens. They're expected to be excellent receivers, mant times lining up wide. |
