Drafttek Live Positional Rankings

The Tight End position has evolved over time. The TE was originally no more than a second OT who sometimes caught short passes over the middle. But the sophistication of today's NFL passing attack has put the TE in motion and increased his patterns on the passing tree. The terms "H-Back" and "F-Back" are sometimes used for Tight End/Fullback hybrid players. Responsibilities of the Tight End include:

1) Blocking for running plays
2) Running pass patterns

Tight Ends have been categorized as "Blocking TEs" or "Receiving TEs" based upon the following factors:

A. Prevailing offensive philosophy. A two TE alignment does not necessarily refer to a running formation, although it does add balance to both sides of the line. Consider the Colts with their 2 WR, 1 RB formation - one TE is normally larger in size for blocking, the other more of a receiver.
B. Opponent's defensive philosophy: Does your opponent blitz? And if so, how will you attack it? With more blockers for protection? Running draws and screens? Or a quick, short passing attack?

09/10/11/12 NFL drafts

All picks, 1 page! Drafttek prepared an internal-use spreadsheet for its analysts, who were tired of sifting through page after page to find historical draft picks. They said "put it online for our readers!" This resource allows fans to find all drafted players from the 2009-2012 drafts - side by side all on the same page.
